ABOUT THE VISITING PET PROGRAM

The Positive Paws Visiting Pet Program is a non-profit, volunteer program.  The program consists of approximately twenty volunteers with a common goal of sharing their pets with others.  All of our volunteers have undergone training and are certified.

Many people are blessed with the opportunity of sharing their life with a pet but there are others who do not have this opportunity.  People living at nursing homes, hospitals, children’s homes and other long-term care facilities often cannot have a pet to call their own.  And, unfortunately most of these facilities are unable to have a pet on the premises for the residents to enjoy.

Our volunteers give back to the

community by sharing their well-mannered, certified pets with people who love animals but are unable to have their own.

Our volunteers regularly express how  rewarding it is to share the affection of their pets to help bring smiles to faces and joy into hearts.

PURPOSE OF THE VISITING PET PROGRAM

The common goal shared by the Visiting Pet Program and its volunteers, is to share the joy of their pets with those who can not have "a furry friend” in their life everyday.

The smiling faces of the people that the volunteers meet are the reason they share their time and pets by visiting.

Our mission is to continue to increase the number of certified pet partners and be available to serve more facilities in Dutchess County.

ABOUT THE
VISITING PET PARTNERS

All of the Visiting Pet Partners volunteer their time and their pets to the program and to those it serves.  All of our volunteers and their pets go through a pre-screening and training program and then go on to become certified.  All Pet Partners are certified by the Delta Society before they start visiting.
The visiting pet program holds training classes and workshops to help prepare volunteers for their certification and visiting.
The program welcomes many types of pets including dogs, cats, equine, bunnies, birds and "pocket" pets.
